Hi! I’m Tarra, the baker, taste-tester, photographer, and dishwasher behind Guacamole for Dinner.
I grew up in a house that was always filled with new tastes. I take after my mom in my love of cooking, and still aspire to be able to cook like her someday. She always had us trying something new, and by the time we were old enough to pronounce it, we were requesting veal piccata, salmon, or cabbage salad for birthday dinners.
Twenty-some years later, and it seems I’ve officially inherited the itch to cook.
I have a full-time job, and keep busy after work, so often times, cooking a meal just for myself seems like a daunting task. I love recipes that are easy to make, but still leave an impression. On weeknights, I look to recipes that are easy, satisfying, and won’t leave me in the kitchen cooking dinner until 10pm. Weekends are when I’ll generally take on recipes I’ve been waiting to try – cupcakes, granola, dinners that make enough food to feed 8 – and those are some of my favorite projects.
All of my creations come out of a rather small kitchen in my Chicago apartment. I don’t have a lot of counter space, and my closets are filled with the appliances that don’t fit in my kitchen (so, pretty much everything but the coffee maker).
When I’m not in the kitchen, I like to spend time with friends, go for walks along Lake Michigan, and try not to make too big of a fool of myself in Zumba class.
And, yes, sometimes I do eat guacamole for dinner.
